What is Acupuncture?

Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners discovered that the body forms disharmonies as a result of the various physical and mental stresses of life. Oriental medical theory explains these disharmonies as an imbalance of opposing forces called yin and yang. This imbalance disrupts the movement of the body's vital energy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body's energy is thought to flow. Acupuncture restores the smooth flow of qi. By inserting and manipulating hair-thin needles at specific points, I am able to return the body to its natural balance and promote the body's ability to heal itself.

Acupuncture returns the body to its
natural state of balance and harmony.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is used by millions every year. Acupuncturists are required to undergo extensive education, including detailed study of human anatomy and training in Clean Needle Technique. I am a fully licensed and an insured member of The British Acupuncture Council, the main regulatory body for acupuncture in the UK. So you can be sure of the utmost standards of care and professional conduct. As required by law, I use pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use needles to ensure your complete safety.

Acupuncture Treatments

Acupuncture is a safe and well researched, drug-free treatment involving the insertion and manipulation of fine needles at relevant acupuncture points on your body. Acupuncture addresses both physical and emotional issues, helps to relieve pain and removes stress from your daily life. Each treatment is tailor-made to suit the patient’s individual needs.

Dr Tan’s Balance Method of acupuncture is a most effective system of acupuncture for treating pain, as well as internal problems such as digestive issues, migraines, gynecological problems. Rather than assessing the energy of each organ to determine which are out of balance, Dr Tan’s Balance Method looks at the meridians affected instead. It works quickly and provides:

  • A sense of balance in your life
  • 85% success rate when undergoing a series of treatments on a regular basis
  • Needling on the arms, legs and head
  • Faster overall recovery time

A safe and effective treatment for each stage of motherhood, acupuncture can boost fertility to support conception, alleviate various conditions during pregnancy and assist with post-natal care. Acupuncture can be beneficial during pregnancy for:

  • Musculoskeletal pain - eg. back pain, sciatic nerve pain, pelvic girdle pain
  • Morning sickness
  • Anxiety, tiredness, headaches, stress
  • Turning babies from breech to head down presentation
  • Birth preparation

Acupuncture is one of the most popular alternative therapies to help boost fertility. How can Acupuncture help with fertility? Acupuncture aims to re-balance your energy flow and prime your body for fertility. The British Acupuncture Council believes acupuncture may boost female fertility by doing four key things:

  • Regulating hormone function
  • Increase blood flow to the ovaries and uterus and helping to relax muscles which can improve the chance of an embryo implanting
  • Tackling the cause of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - a common cause of infertility.
  • Generally helping to relieve stress and make you feel more relaxed

The treatment starts with an initial consultation to address all kinds of possible issues your body, for instance, digestive issues, stress, sleeping problems etc., which may all affect your appearance. So in order to look and feel better, the whole body needs to be treated.

Based on the initial consultation, I select certain acupuncture points on your body to address your symptoms. Afterwards, I insert tiny intradermal needles into your face which naturally stimulate and tighten facial muscles and help to boost collagen as well as to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is a very natural and chemical free treatment.

The needles remain in your face for 30 min. In the meantime, you will receive a foot reflexology massage followed by a hand massage. The treatment ends with a face and head massage.

Although Shonishin is technically a baby massage technique, it is often referred to as “paediatric acupuncture” – but without the needles. It was developed for children and babies in Japan in the 17th century.

Shonishin includes stroking, tapping and massaging techniques, which aim to stimulate both, acupressure points and even entire meridians in the child's body. In order to accomplish that, we use a tool, the "Shonishin tool"  which was specifically developed for this purpose.

Each Shonishin treatment is tailored to the child's individual needs and age. Because of that, Shonishin is even suitable for newborns.

The Benefits of Shonishin:

The similarity of Shonishin with acupuncture opens up entirely new ways to help a child, compared to other baby massage techniques. In particular, it allows us to efficiently address specific issues and conditions in a child.

Such issues and conditions include but are not limited to:

Behavioral issues
Sleep issues
Skin disorders

Shonishin Course for Parents:
Please note: I no longer offer "offline" Shonishin courses for parents, because I am about to launch an online course. The online course makes it even easier for parents to learn Shonishin, because they can watch the training videos over and over again as required.
